BANGKOK SONG - Full Name of Bangkok

Synopsis: Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand, was founded in 1782 by the first king of the present Chakri dynasty, King Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke the Great (King Rama I). Bangkok is known in the Thai language as “Krung Thep Mahanakhon” or “Krung Thep” for short. The full ceremonial name of the city was given by King Rama I, and later edited by King Mongkut (King Rama VI).

This name was composed using the combination of two ancient Indian languages, Pali and Sanskrit. Most Thai people cannot recite the full name of Bangkok correctly and do not understand the meaning because it is not in the Thai language. The name of Bangkok was made into a song by the band Asanee-Wasan in 1989. However, Paiboon Publishing has remade it for Thais and non-Thais alike to enjoy and understand the full name of this beautiful capital with Thai and English translations using a tango music rhythm.
